Jet Power Tools

Jet power tools are meant for the serious workshop. Whether you are a professional or just a serious hobbyist, Jet power tools are designed with professional usage in mind. You will find Jet power tools in many professional wood and metal working shops. Their table saws, routers, drill presses, bandsaws and lathes are amongst the best manufactured in the United States. These tools work a bit differently than their hand held cousins. Using stationary bench held power tools like these allow more precision in cutting drilling hole and shaping than hand held power tools do.

When making a chair or table from wood stock, a lathe is very handy for carving the legs and other pieces of round stock in a chair or table. You place the wood stock in the lathe. When you turn on the lathe, the wood will turn at a controllable rate. Held tools will remove wood from the stock till your piece is in the shape you want. The cutting tools come in different shapes and can be either machine held or hand held if you have a steady hand and good eye. A machine held cutting tool will give precisely the same appearance to each piece you turn on the lathe. Lathes are reasonably safe pieces of equipment to operate. As long as the cutting tool and the stock are secure in their fastening, it is very difficult to hurt yourself.

A drillpress operates like an adjustable fixed rate drill with the advantage of not being able to drift away from where you want your hole drilled. The material to be drilled is held by clamps and positioned where you want the hole drilled. The drill speed is set before turning on the drill and can not be changed while the drill is running. As long as the clamps are securely fastened to the material and eye protection is worn, this is another safe piece of equipment to operate.

Table saws, band saws and routers are all a bit more difficult to operate than the Jet power tools previously mentioned. All feature unguarded cutting edges that you place the material against. While there are always guides to assist in the shaping you are attempting with these machines, you will be pushing the material against the cutting surface rather than pushing the cutting surface against the material. The tension this places on the material you are shaping will cause it to try and jump away from the cutting surface. If you are not prepared for this action, it has the potential to pull your hand into the cutting surface.

Jet power tools makes every type of floor mounted shop equipment you might desire in your wood or metal working shop. Remember that when you operate any type of floor mounted shaping equipment eye protection should be worn. Your goal in using these machines is to remove material and leave a finished product in your hand. That material will fly everywhere and may hit your eye if it is not protected. Be safe and enjoy using Jet power tools as they were designed to be used.
