Even though there are mill drills that come with a power feed, if you already own a mill drill and it doesn't have one, you can build your own mill drill power feed. Though it is possible to build a power feed if you have a large industrial-sized mill drill, this could be a lot more difficult, and might not be worth your time and trouble. If, however, you run a mini mill drill in your home workshop and it doesn't have a power feed, you may be able to build one if you have a fairly good knowledge of how machinery works.

If your mill drill works with a crank, that could get extremely tiring after a while. You will also most likely be able to find tips and tricks that can help you get it right the first time. Also, you should be able to get some ongoing help and advice while building your power feed if you join one or two Internet message boards where people discuss power tools and home workshop machinery. Many times these message boards will have sections where people can ask questions about the projects that they are working on, and there is usually always someone who has the answers to these questions. This can be very valuable when you are working on a project with which you have no experience. The key is to get rid of your "I can do it myself" attitude and accept help and advice when it is offered. When you've built your mill drill power feed and realize that you have done a good job of it, you will be glad that you listened to the advice of other more experienced people.

You may want to calculate how much it will cost for you to build your own power feed, and weigh the costs and the amount of labor involved against buying a new mini mill drill that comes equipped with a power feed. If saving time is your most important priority, then buying the new mini mill drill may be the way you want to go.
